Delores Jeanne Chase, 87, of Mount Vernon, Washington was welcomed into Heaven on Thursday, April 13, 2017, with her family gathered around her.

She was born on February 21, 1930 in Sedro-Woolley, WA. She was the only child of John and Lillian Nowochin, and was the apple of their eye. Delores was a lifetime Skagitonian and she graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1948. She remained close to many of her friends from that time. She married Gordon W. Chase on August 26, 1949. They had been married for almost 50 years when Gordon passed away in 1999. Along with Gordon’s parents, they owned and operated Hilltop Grocery in Mount Vernon for many years. It was during this time that Gordon and Delores raised their family of three children.

After selling the grocery store, Delores had a variety of occupations including selling Tupperware and working alongside her children in the flower, spinach and berry fields in the Skagit Valley. One of her last jobs was bookkeeper at Hamburg’s 76 Station.

In addition to her family, her passions were reading, crocheting and knitting, doing word puzzles, and camping. She loved to have fun and was always up for anything. She made and donated hundreds of hats to the Skagit Herald Christmas fund. Family members were gifted with beautiful crocheted tablecloths, and she delighted in making doilies for her family and dear friends. She loved to have whatever you needed and collected and saved everything. Delores and Gordon really knew how to have fun and spent many hours socializing with friends and family. They played cards, rode motor cycles, went hunting and fishing. Whatever they did, they did with gusto, good food, friends and family. Delores loved to have large holiday gatherings and made sure everyone had a place to sit at the table, there were no kid’s tables.

When Gordon passed away in 1999, Delores accepted the Lord as her savior, and it forever changed her life. She joined Avon United Methodist church and was there until it closed. She then attended Christ The King church in Mount Vernon. She participated in many Bible study sessions and enjoyed being a member of the Golden Girls.

Delores is survived by her children: Cleve (Jerri) Chase, Lloyd Chase and Sally (Jeff) Freeman and grandchildren: Josh (Angela) Freeman, Lucas (Alena) Freeman, Kamriell (Craig) Welty, Brant (Tyler) Chase, Staci Chase, and Cody Chase. There are also six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon and grandson, Garrett Chase.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Allen United Methodist Church, in Allen, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
