Michael Frank Bell, Sr. passed away May 14, 2017, at the age of 77 into the arms of Jesus with his family by his side. Michael was born to Dr. Frank Nelson Bell and Hazel Joy Bauman Bell in Colfax, Washington on September 30, 1939. The family moved to Mount Vernon in 1941. Michael attended school in the Mount Vernon School District where he was a member of the boxing and wrestling teams and Junior Rifle Club. After graduation, he cattle ranched with his father and drove school bus for local school districts. Later he joined the Army Reserves and in July of 1962, he married Sigrid Janet Gunderson. Together they had the joy of raising four children. For twelve years they lived in Mount Vernon then moved to Samish Island in 1974. During these years he taught drivers' education, history, and math as well as ran Safety Club at Sedro Woolley High School. Mike, or Mr. Bell as he was known to his students, was easy to talk to and was loved by most. After retirement, he and Sigrid enjoyed cooking, baking, and serving their loyal customers at their local bakery, Sigi's Cinnamons and Chapel of the Bells. The last few years of his life were spent involved in Sons of Norway, Abel Lodge Chapter of Conway and attending Samish Island Chapel as members. Michael's favorite pastimes were telling stories and singing songs from his childhood. Many memorable occasions were also spent fishing and hunting. He was especially fond of digging clams, crabbing, and enjoying picnics with family and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his great granddaughter, Evelyn Joy Borthwick. Surviving family members are his loving wife, Sigrid; son Michael Jr. and wife Cristy, their four children Amberlee, Jessica, Nicolas, and Jonathon; son Bradley, his two children Riley and Kailey, and his wife Mechel and son Jonathan; daughter Synthia and husband Butch Tennyson, their four children Caitlyn, Tairyn, Jocelyn, and Mitchell; son Scott and wife Michelle, and their three children Brian, Alysa, and Duncan; eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dona Biermann, her four sons, their families and multiple in-laws, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. The family requests your presence at his memorial service to be held Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. in Sedro Woolley at North Cascade Christian Fellowship, 118 N. Ball Street.
