Norma Lou Gray was born March 25, 1944, the daughter of Harriet Tunheim, in Yakima, Washington. She was the first of three children. The family moved to Whidbey Island in 1950, and while she lived in many different places across the country, she always considered the Island her home. She attended Coupeville High School and worked several jobs before returning to school, graduating from Walla Walla Community College in 1983. She worked as a registered nurse for 30 years, including 11 years at Monroe Twin Rivers Correctional Facility, and numerous years as a Director of Nursing in long-term health care facilities. After retiring she was recalled many times for consulting purposes. During this time, she also enjoyed camping with family, traveling, and reading voraciously. Norma was married five times and is survived by her son Marty Borgman and wife Pam, son Peter Borgman and wife Brooke, daughter Tracy Swayzer and husband Fred, and son Sean Veighey and wife Ginger; grandchildren Laura, Matt, Fred, Hanna, Jasmine, Kaila, Chelsea, Devon, DiMera, Drake, Peter, Pistol, Maiya, Ethan, and Gabrielle; great grandchildren Kellie, Ava, Ariyah, and Corey; sister Roberta Roe, and brother Tommy Hartford.
